Alan Chan’s music often takes inspiration from his life experiences as a resident in America, East Asia and Europe. He fearlessly uses his music to raise awareness of current issues such as environmental protection, and it often intertwines with other creative art forms such as contemporary poetry. His genre-shaking works have been recognized with honors and funding from ArtEZ (Netherlands), American Composers Forum (ACF), ASCAP, New Music USA, Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI), the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) and Los Angeles County Arts Commission (LA Arts), among others.He is a two-time winner of the Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest – a first place with Without a Trail to Lace for voice and vibraphone in 2008 and a second place with Floes for vibraphone solo in 2004.
