Saxophonist Jussi Kannaste (born 1976) is known from bands such as Kannaste-Ojajärvi Quintet, Kannaste-Olding 4-band and tours with, for example, the UMO Jazz Orchestra. In addition to playing, Kannaste is the head of the jazz department and a valued saxophone lecturer at the esteemed Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Kannaste has been awarded the Finnish Saxophone Society Josef Kaartinen-prize in 2001 and the Sony Jazz Award in 2005.
