Kenny MacKenzie Trio formed in 2000 in New York City with Mike Savino on bass and Josiah Wolf on drums. They began recording their first album in January. The next year the band was already booked weekly at several Manhattan jazz clubs including Louis Bar in the East Village, Arthur's Tavern & Café Creole in the West (where they were absorbed as a rhythm section into the Ja'z Quintet).
In 2003, instead of one lineup, the group became a rotating trio featuring some of the hottest players in the city, including the names below. Kenny moved from Brooklyn back to his native Long Island in 2004 and joined the Shenole Latimer Quartet. This friendship resulted in the 2006 release "Closer to the Day" with Shenole as a 4th member on most of the tracks.
