He is one of the most remarkable young musicians on the local jazz scene. Son of pianist Manuel Fraga, guitarist Tomás Fraga already shows compositional maturity on his debut album Influencias, featuring ten original pieces ranging from fugue-style blues, “Pulpo negro”, to a four-movement piece for jazz quartet, string quartet and clarinet , “Mejor reírse”, to the opening “Pequeños pasos”, where solos are woven into a bright melody. On the album, the group composed of Tomás Fares on piano, Pablo Motta on double bass and Oscar Giunta on drums, transitions through different formats—quartet, sextet, nonet—as required by the pieces. Tomás Fraga studied guitar, harmony and improvisation with Marcelo Mayor and Manolo Juárez. And it is worthy of mention that even when jazz has influenced rock, it was rock that brought the electric guitar to the fore.
