I don't know if you are familiar with The Counts
I just dropped off a review on the front page too.

I was doing some research on Bill Mason before adding him to the site. Apparently he records gospel/new age CDs now.

Other soul jazz and funk artists have gone that route. Chuck Brown records new age and children's CDs these days, on piano no less.

Ouch, I didn't realize Cornell Dupree wasn't on here, I'll check out Ceaser Frazier too.

I found a great obscure souljazz set today. A double album CD by two artists, Bill Mason and Gary Chandler. Gettin' Off/Outlook it's called. The Gary Chandler set is particularly hot, it's got Cornell Dupree, Ceaser Frazier (two artists who deserve mention on this site by the way), Harold Ousley, and Idris Muhammad.

Bill Mason played B-3 for Prestige in the early 70's on a couple notable albums.

Man you guys thank you for all the suggestions--I've acquired some great knowledge and look forward to gaining more. I've listened to The Mighty Ryeders and Tarika Blue, good music and super obscure. That's the stuff I'm looking for. Thanks again y'all

Might Ryeders, I'm going to have to try them. They seem to be right along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Ramsey Lewis, that's a great great album...

I have an album of Mighty Ryeders. A good jazz funk. Or in the case of music such as James Mason. The example that Sun Goddess of Ramsey Lewis is plain.

Herbie Hancock
Soulive
Lettuce
Steve Jenkins
The JBs
The Greyboy All-stars
Orgone
The Headhunters
John Scofield
Eddie Henderson
Freddie Hubbard

This is not real rare, but if you do not know this one, you must check it out, one-of-a-kind electro lounge funk from Eddie Harris:

I don't know which is the best, but that entire Loungissima series is good.

THAT is what I am looking for. Wow that is ultra obscure and looks right up my alley. Thanks.
I did a bit of research after you sent me the Africa link, and I saw it listed as "Various Artists" referring, I suppose, to the different members of the Valiants who perform the songs on the album. Anyways that's a super find, if you have anything else like that send it over, that's the glory of these encyclysites!
