Here is one that a lot of people don't know about, "Night of the Purple Moon", on which Ra explores his interest in lounge exotica, its one of my favorites. Edited by js - 03 Jun 2022 at 12:59pm |

I love it! Pretty "normal", to be honest, but great music anyways!

Listened to it, very good indeed. But I think I prefer the last four tracks, haha (although the Exotica tunes were good too) And I also listened to Media Dreams, weirder than "Angels" but still a good album. Thanks for the suggestions, I will listen more soon!

"Astro Black" favors Sun Ra's use of electronic keyboards. Edited by js - 24 May 2022 at 9:24pm |

Late in his career, Sun Ra was likely to do entire concerts of old school big band swing, but in his own quirky way, such is the case with "Reflections in Blue". Edited by js - 24 May 2022 at 7:10am |

"Pathways to Unknown Worlds" is one of his better free jazz records, check the review. Edited by js - 24 May 2022 at 7:11am |

For something very bizarre and intense, there is "Atlantis".

For something more mellow, "Angels and Demons at Play" is his nod to lounge exotica artists like Les Baxter.

I own a lot of his albums. i will drop off some suggestions one at a time. A lot of these links will have reviews with them.
"Live at Montreaux" is a pretty good one to start with because it carries a lot of the various directions his band can go in. |

I want to listen to Sun Ra music, but he has a massive discography. Which album is good for a newcomer?
