Memphis' Green Room continues to put on outstanding jazz concerts, this is one of the finest jazz venues you will find anywhere in the world. Stephen Lee is a local pianist who brought his trio to the Green Room on Saturday October 5 accompanied by a couple horn players and local songstress, Talibah Safiya on vocals.

Many of the songs performed were Talibah originals, but every tune left plenty of instrumental space for the soloists. The music was in a modern NYC type vein with rhythms that combined post bop with today's very busy DnB influences. Drummer Kurt Gray is to be commended for his outstanding job throughout the concert. Stephen never disappoints on the piano with combined influences of Herbie Hancock, gospel and funky soul jazz. His solos are not extravagant, but they are very much in the pocket, the man is a rhythmic powerhouse. Talibah was captivating on vocals and her songs are creative and open ended and gave the musicians a lot to work with.
