The 20th edition of ‘Jazzmandu’ will take place in Kathmandu from October 24 to 30, 2024. Celebrating two decades of musical fusion, this year’s event will feature performances from renowned artists such as Erik Truffaz from Switzerland, the all-female Sheroes from the USA, Germany's Alma Naidu, Antonio Lizana QuintetFeat Al Mawi (Spain), Afro Dizzi Act (Australia), alongside Nepal’s Cadenza Collective, Dhrupad Gurukul Kathmandu, Samundra Band, Gandharva, and a few eastern classical musicians.The festival will be held across many venues in Kathmandu, starting with ‘Jazz for the Next Generation’ at St Xavier’s School, Jawalakhel, on October 24. One of the key highlights, the ‘Jazz Bazaar’ at Gokarna Forest Resort on October 26, promises incredible music under the open sky.
On October 28, Lawn by Nanglo, Jhamsikhel, is hosting ‘Sounds of Flamenco Jazz and Afro-Beat’. For more information about the event, visit their website.
The festival will culminate in a grand finale on October 30 at the Malla Hotel, Lekhnath, Marg, Lainchaur. Some free events offer access to a broader audience. Students and local musicians can also attend workshops without charge, promoting inclusivity.
The annual festival, which began in 2002, was founded by Chhedup Bomzan of The Jazz Upstairs Bar and Navin Chettri, drummer and vocalist of Cadenza. It has become an annual celebration of jazz and cross-cultural collaboration.
