Flying Lotus Details Soundtrack for New Movie Ash, Shares Song: ListenThe film, directed by Flying Lotus and starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul, premieres on March 21 By ![]() Flying Lotus, photo by Jen Raoult As previously reported, Flying Lotus has directed and scored the upcoming film Ash, a science-fiction horror starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul. The movie doesn’t premiere until March 21, but its soundtrack will arrive a few days earlier, on March 19, via Milan Records. Today, Flying Lotus has shared a new song from that soundtrack, “Oxygene,” to tide fans over until then. Give it a listen below. “Working on the score was both inspiring and challenging,” said Flying Lotus. “I spent most of the time writing it during the final postproduction and color grading when I was in New Zealand, running back and forth to different rooms to check on progress and going into my lil cave there and working with just my laptop and controller. I drew inspiration from composers who primarily just used synths to create soundtracks, like John Carpenter, Akira Yamaoka, Angelo Badalamenti, and Vangelis. It was a great time trying to find a distinctive sound for the movie that also felt fresh and unique for me to explore.” Ash focuses on an “ordeal of psychological and physical terror” that ensues after a woman on a distant planet awakens to find her crew killed, and the film’s trailer captures that with otherworldly galaxy shots and trippy visuals. Following its theatrical run, the film will head to horror-themed streaming service Shudder. Flying Lotus initially announced production on Ash in 2022, with Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt originally cast in the lead roles; those actors were eventually replaced by González and Paul, respectively. This movie will follow Flying Lotus’ 2017 body-horror debut, Kuso.
