"Crystal Spears" was recorded by Sun Ra in the early 70s, but not released until now. Of all the old Sun Ra music that is being dredged up these days, this is some of the best. Like a lot of his music during this time period, this album does not sound like any of his other albums.

A compilation of early Sun Ra tracks from when he started out as a producer for various RnB, doo-wop and pop jazz acts in Chicago. Many of the songs are fairly straight ahead, but the tracks with Yochanan make Screamin Jay Hawkins sound pedestrian.

Live concert from the late 60s with the Mike Westbrook big band. The energy and exuberance of the youthful free jazz oriented soloists helps make up for the less than perfect recording quality.
