It's a tie probably, The importance of both, I have a couple Parker Box sets, But I do Listen to Trane much more often.

This is a very hard one. Coltrane because of his inventiveness, although Parker is a true legend

Coltrane for me. Innovation - tips it in his favour.

We will need however a more significant amount of ignorant newbies to make this only the first of a dozen more Bird vs Trane polls. |

The irony is, this probably won't be the "ultimate" sax showdown on this site judging by the nature of forums...

Charlie paved the way, but since this isnt a "whos more important" poll, I go with Coltrane, because he took what Bird revolutionized, and expanded on that, and then revolutionized his own playing.
Tough poll though |

Definitely Trane.... and I'd place Pharoah and Wayne before Charlie.
But Charlie was there before all of them.

Admittedly, I've heard more by coltrane, so my vote is probably biased, but I prefer Trane (won't officially vote though as not heard enough Parker). |

It's a fairly idiotic poll, I'll admit, but these are probably the two most influential and successful sax players, and I'm wondering who's going to get more votes. Maybe round two can be Sonny Rollins against Cannonball, or something.
