I don't really care about the nature of compilations, no matter what differs (unreleased material, alternate takes, live versions, etc.) There is still nothing new about it, they're still label affairs (many times while the artist is six feet under). @js: I was thinking of how M@X excluded Prog-Related and Proto-Prog from the top 100 chart on PA. Surely new releases can still be automatically sorted, as usual, except for those that are Boxset/Compilations. Edited by Ricochet - 19 Jul 2011 at 9:58am |

The sorting of new releases is automatic and runs by the release date. We can't pick and choose which ones go there, it is determined automatically by release date.

You 're not right in full here - no re-releases can be presented on JMA as new albums. The only case is if re-release is seriously different from its original (and could be counted as new release, not just usual re-release). Compilations come as new releases when they are originally released (no compilation is simple re-release).

That part was just an "a propos".
No matter the pace of new reviews, it's fairer to have two new albums rather than one new album + one 70s Coltrane in a new package. Edited by Ricochet - 19 Jul 2011 at 9:33am |

There were three reviews in this section still not too long ago and it was changed to 2. The reason is unfortunately there comes very limited quantity of reviews for new albums, so same reviews stay for weeks and it is not good for front page at all. The number was reduced to two, and even now (and even when compilations are included) this section isn't very dynamic. If the situation will changes with time I believe some changes could be done

Hardly in my nature to support excluding a category from any chart, list or section, but I think that, with the limit of 2 recent reviews of new releases (2010 / 2011) set on the front page (I would also raise that to 3, btw), we should find a way to keep compilations/boxsets/reissues/remasters out (list them with the rest, in "Older Reviews"). "New Releases" should clearly be only about new artists emerging or active artists making something new, not about what labels re-release, remaster or add as bonus to the original stuff.
