Excellent, John!
Jazz Related RnB sounds great too - I know what you mean about the pop element, probably part of their 'vocal group' roots, I imagine. The acid jazz crowd, wow, it's a more influential album than I thought! |

Skull Snapps and their one album are probably a better fit for JR RnB.
A lot of the album is pop, really good pop though, but songs like New day have become classics with the acid jazz and rare groove crowd so we can add them as a reference to that crowd.

'Skull Snaps' only managed one album in 1973, a pretty good blend of funk and soul. The soul element is pretty hard and the funk isn't too gritty, but it's definitely there.
The song 'It's a New Day' was pretty influential drumwise, and has been sampled quite a bit over the years. I think they'd fit Funk. Their album has been reissued a couple of times on cd, and I stumbled across it a few years ago quite by accident and the tracks below are fairly indicative of the whole album. |
