Without postulating that these albums are "the greatest" in every sense:
Third Stream-wise:
For some reason, I have always respected, but never liked Miles Davis, John Coltrane or Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Here is my list; although it does vary slightly with time, these albums are pretty much it for me:
1. Saxophone Colossus (Sonny Rollins) 2. Speak No Evil (Wayne Shorter) 3. In 'n Out (Joe Henderson) 4. Kind of Blue (Miles Davis) 5. Adam's Apple (Wayne Shorter) 6. Anniversary (Stan Getz) 7. Don Cherry - Featuring Ornette Coleman and Steve Lacy (Don Cherry) 8. Pilgrimage (Michael Brecker) 9. E.S.P. (Miles Davis Quintet) 10. 1 + 1 (Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter) If I had to include more contemporary albums, I'd certainly mention Kurt Rosenwinkel's 'Chords (Live at the Village Vanguard)', and 'Kids (Live at Dizzy's)' with Joe Lovano and Hank Jones. Both fantastic in very different ways. Cheers, Carlo. Edited by carlomuscat - 29 Nov 2014 at 4:52am |

At their live shows, the 70s version of Crimson was mostly a jazz-rock jam band.

^ I mean there are jazz influences ... it's JRF, isn't it? I know that's a pretty stupid thing I said back there.
