Vincent Peirani & Emile Parisien “Nouchka”: Just in time for Bastille Day
— which, if you remember from your European History class, commemorates
the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, a turning point in the
French Revolution — accordionist Vincent Peirani and saxophonist Emile Parisien have released “Nouchka,” a single from their new duo album Abrazo. The album, due out August 28 on ACT Records,
reimagines the music of South American masters Astor Piazzolla, Tomás
Gubitsch and Xavier Cugat. Also featured on the disc are interpretations
of works by Kate Bush and Jelly Roll Morton. For “Nouchka,” however,
the French-born Peirani took a decidedly more personal approach: “Nouchka
was the nickname of my wife when she was a little girl,” said Peirani.
“I decided to compose a song thinking about her as a child, and also
about who she is now.
When she listened to it for the first time,
she was not aware about my ‘inspiration.’ I asked her how she felt about
the song, and she told me that it could have been composed for the
daughter we could have. (We have two boys). So, for me, it was a kind of
perfect match. I hope you will enjoy it!” JAZZIZ is proud to premiere
the track via the player below. from www.jazziz.com

Takuya Kuroda, “Change” feat. Corey KingTrumpeter Takuya Kuroda released “Change,” a new single from his forthcoming album, Fly Moon Die Soon, due out September 18. The track features Corey King on vocals. It also showcases Kuroda’s love of such genres as post-bop and soul-jazz, and much like the rest of the album, was built on beats created by him and later finished in-studio with engineer Todd Carter. In Kuroda’s words, “this album is about the irony between the greatness of nature and the beautiful [obscenity] of humanity. Melodies and grooves fly back and forth from being spiritual to being vulgar.” from www.jazziz.com |

Norman Brown, “Heading Wes”Guitarist/composer Norman Brown has a new album due out August 7 via Shanachie. Heart to Heart
features several notable guests, as well as this track, “Heading Wes,”
which is a tribute to Brown’s father and the iconic Wes Montgomery. “My
dad loved Wes and inspired me to learn that style by allowing me to have
the car on Saturday night if I learned his favorite Wes tunes, like
‘Bumping On Sunset’ and ‘Down Here on the Ground,'” says Brown. “Frankly
I would have learned them based on my own love of his playing. His
technique, beautiful chord soloing in addition to his single one-note
expression was wonderfully original and innovative.” from www.jazziz.com

The first is an instrumental take on Roberto and Erasmo Carlos’ 1969 Jovem Guarda hit “As Curvas da Estrada de Santos.” The second is a spacey psych-folk oddity titled “Zé e Paraná.” Both will be released on 7″ vinyl via Far Out on September 18. Their release follows last year’s Demos (1973-75). The tracks were recorded in Jose Roberto Bertrami’s house in Rio de Janiero at some point between 1973 and 1975. |
