 What is your first musical memory/souvenir (other than mommy's lullabies)? Oh boy. Hmm...well if we are talking beyond listening to music...I remember once when I was in third grade I believe, they brought all the 3rd grade classes together in the lunch room and had a man with an array of instruments behind him. He was there to encourage us youngins to join the band of the school (which you could once you were in fourth grade). Thus, he gave a lecture/demonstration of all the type of instruments they had in the school (concert) band..trumpet, saxophones, flute, drums/percussions, etc. Gotta say, I was pretty damn fasinated with it all. Especially the sax. So I decided to try my hand at it all. Sadly, my fingers were too short/stubby to reach all the keys correctly at the time
so I quickly switched to drums and continued in school bands throughout high school.If we are talking listening to music...probably listening to some of my dad's CD in the living room while playing some silly games to the music. I specifically remember a Moody Blues best of album being the highlight. I didn't have a CD of my own til I was like 14 if not older.
Which official masterpiece bugs you beyond belief? I'll take 'bugs you beyond belief' to mean 'you don't like'. And my answer will be Davis' Bitches Brew. I know it's a classic but whew...I don't enjoy listening to it.
Perhaps Yes' Close To The Edge is a better answer...being it is much more of a frustrating album. The title track is brilliant but the remaining two are quite a bit less than brilliant. I suppose I can say a similar thing about Genesis' Selling England....when it's good it's brilliant...but then it has that middle bit which is a snoozefest and quite annoying as it kind of ruins the mood of the album for me.

Idk how turdy this album is considered as a whole (away from PA I mean) but I quite enjoy Frank Zappa's Civilization Phase III, which if I remember corretly is rated pretty low at PA (of course, it's not a rock album in any way, so that may influence something). But it's the only thing I can think of.

But, I guess, I'll answer with Capt. Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica. Not that everyone else seems to hate it, but it is one of those classic examples of love or hate, and I fall on the love side.

I'll cheat and say Ulver's A Quick Fix Of Melancholy EP...because it's rather short.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just too young to know who I am.
Which piece/album influenced your life? The most influencial album for me was King Crimson's Discpline. My first prog album (aside from some Pink Floyd songs and the Yes hits that get played on classic rock radio) that really opened the doors for me to enjoy music as a whole beyond either background noise or a once and a-while escape from the real world. I'm sure it helped that it was the most out there thing I listened to at the time as well.

Give an example of "intelligent" music Jazz, classical, and the avant-garde are certainly where most of the cerebralness in music is, these days espeically. Something like prog is good too as it's a nice merging of the two ends of the specturm. (meaning more of the style of prog-rock). And any type of music that stresses the music and the the shattering of boundaries/streching what can be done within them.
Which is your favourite musician still alive today? Tough.
I'll say Peter Hammill.

Which idea or concept would you like to see adapted musically?? That more music would be indeed about the music, and not lyrics/selling albums/style/etc.

Earliest souvenir for me, as my memory is not the greatest, would be a toy (plastic) guitar with very crappy nylon strings. I think it was light blue.

Not going to say it bugs me, as th album itself is great. But as I don't feel it is the band's best work (by far) I must say 'Sg Pepper's.'

None, although the over usage of the word "progressive" and "prog" in a certain board bugs me. It's too pop'y for me!
Good question ... I've heard so many I'm not sure which ones I've missed.

I would have to check my list ... but Amon Duul 2 comes to mind, in the lack of understanding as to what music is all about and how music can be a vehicle for some serious expression instead of a commercial sound.
"Swastika Girls" ... until they start appreciating what became known as something else is also very progressive and nice! You already know what album that is from!!!
Amon Duul 2 - Wolf City ... but before we do that we have to de-sensitize people from listening to too much elevator music and commercial music!

Any Peter Hammill piece of work, and ending with "A Way Out" ... so you know what I mean.
All of them and none of them. I was already into and studying mysticism to the point where I knew the trappings of "success" and "commerciality" in order to learn something inside.
Best line I ever learned something from was actually a Carlos Castaneda novel ... the day you stop listening to everything, including me, you will know much better who you are ... and I knew right away that the drugs were not necessary and were there because Carlos was a tough and stubborn mamma! And don Juan said so 7 books later.
Doesn't depress me ... but I still love Sandy Denny's work and voice with all my heart. You must listen to the Remastered "Rising for the Moon" and make sure you listen to the two versions of "One More Chance" ... I can't help crying on it, because it is as if she is asking for a chance, that she already knows she is not going to get!
