One of the best jazz/blues organ players who ever played in a rock band, Jon Lord's solos on the B3 have never been matched in the world of rock.
Listen to albums like: "Made in Japan" "Made in Europe" "Deep Purple in Rock" An inspirational player, the Hendrix of the B3, Lord was always quick to point out his influences and led many a young keyboard player to guys like Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Brian Auger and Jimmy McGriff, Lord was also known to be a big fan of Miles Davis. Lord's use of the ring modualtor reflected his appreciation for Corea and Jarret's sonic noise onslaughts on Miles' "Live at the Fillmore". Edited by js - 16 Jul 2012 at 3:08pm |

I saw Deep Purple in Japan in 1993. The guitar player was already Joe Satriani, but there was not much sense of incongruity about ensemble. Because opening track was Highway Star, the excitement of the audience reached the top immediately. I remember Made in Japan immediately and always remember the experience as a memory. Jon always played the best. In every activity. RIP, Jon.

I'm glad I had the chance to see him in concert in 2009

I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...

^ Concerto for group and orchestra and a selection of his own compositions( 'Sarabande' for example) .He was accompanied by a symphonic orchestra(Bulgarian I think)
