Got a few jazz albums under the tree.
Roscoe Mitchell Sextet - Sound Mal Waldron - The Quest Alain Caron (le Band) - "play" I asked for the Alain Caron because I'd previously bought a transcription book of it in a bargain bin, so I might as well own the album too.

Nice album with early Dolphy works, it's interesting that seven years later it was already released as Dolphy album |

It's my first Mal Waldron album. I usually branch out my jazz collection by going with other albums that artists I like (in this case Dolphy, Booker Ervin and Ron Carter) perform on.

Found a used copy of Miles "Relaxin'" at my local shop for $3 the other day.
Otherwise, I've been picking up a bunch of Zappa albums lately.

Actually, I haven't got around to it. I'll squeeze it in tonight. The weird thing is that I'd seen that record several times before in years past, but I never noticed that there was someone behind him with a bubblemaker until I grabbed it off a stack of records yesterday. It makes the standard photo album cover look very odd to me now.

I'm almost done listening to it now. My first impression is that I can see why fans of his would be upset seeing as this followed School Days. Modern Man is a mainly vocal album, but there are a few interesting musical themes and instrumentals. Not a whole lot about it jumps out so far, but it's far from horrid. Just a bit unmemorable. I'd take the first Clarke/Duke Project album over this if you want something in his discography with vocals.

Made the mistake of wandering into a record/CD shop the other night, so much to choose from, decided to go with some much needed classics.
On CD - "Bird and Diz" On vinyl - Sun Ra "Monorails and Satellites" "Bird at St Nicks" (terrible sound quality)
