I am genuinely interested in hearing new jazz, but which songs, tracks, or compositions can you jazzophiles recommend for the newcomer to the genre?
I personally like:
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Birds of Fire
Miles Beyond
One Word
Meeting of the Spirits
Miles Davis
Bitches Brew
In A Silent Way pt2
Kind of Blue
Colosseum
Valentyne Suite
Chicago
Chicago Transit Authority tracks:
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
Beginnings Questions 67 and 68 Frank Zappa
Dont eat the Yellow Snow
Gumbo Variations
Peaches In Regalia
King Kong
John Coltrane
Giant Steps
Naima
Syeeda's Song Flute
Mr PC
Spiral

I question whether anything on your list is a "classic" jazz composition. Try things like "In a Sentimental Mood" or "Autumn Leaves."

^^^ I meant compositions that are simply here on the jazz archives so took out the word 'classic' in the title...
