I would like to recommend Shem-Tov Levy: he can play anything from rock to jazz, pop and world music and give his own style to the music (while being an excellent pianist and singer as well)

I, myself played flute on some big band song and it works perfectly. I always tought that flute was a fully assimilated jazz instrument as well as a classical music instrument.

I second this one. Laws does excellent piccolo work on Jaco's (Used to be a) Cha-Cha.
