Thats either Herb Alpert, or the Baja Marimba Band, which was a spin off group from Alpert.
I own a lot of those records and might be able to find the song, but it may take a while. Let me know if you already have found out the name so I don't search in vain.

I have some time to work on this day, later I will list albums that it does not show up on so as to narrow the selection.
In the Mannix scene, she is a bull fighting fan killed with a bull fighting sword, so possibly the song is about bull fighting. Did you check out any samples on amazon?

Here is a website with his discography. If you click on the albums, you can hear samples.
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/herb-alpert-mn0000674332/discography In the meantime, I'll go through what I have. So far you can exclude: "Whipped Cream" "Going Places" "South of the Border" "What Now My Love" "Herb Alperts' Ninth" "America" "Casino Royale" "The Beat of the Brass" "Volume 2" I'll list others in this post as I go through them.

I put Volume 2 on my list above.
Its very possible that this song is actually the Baja Marimba Band. You might want to check their allmusic page next. I also have some of their albums too.

I did some more research and I now think that it is Markowitz imitating Herb Alpert. First of all, Markowitz did score that episode.
When they show the record label during that scene, it obviously is not an Alpert album (that would be an A&M label) since they were blatantly using the song, they had no need to hide what record it was, which makes me think the record they are showing is just a mock-up while Markowitz's dead on imitation plays in the background. Also, I think there is some humor at work here. The murdered woman was a bull fighting fan and was killed with a bull fighting sword. Due to Alpert's frequent references to bull fighting in his music, it made for a sort of sarcastic joke to have a faux Alpert tune playing while Mannix finds the sword and the murder. |

From what I saw, he appears on some soundtrack collections possibly, or maybe a few soundtracks of his own.
Since the song on Mannix is never allowed to play in its entirety, it may have never been released outside this episode. The complete song may exist only in his personal collection. Possibly an attempt to contact him personally would be your only shot at getting that song. In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can make out what that faux record label says. Also, while looking at Mannix trivia, I ran across the episode where there is a topless female sunbather for a couple seconds.

The record label says "Modern Rhythm" in big cursive print with a couple of large musical notes, its all a spoof.
Which music site had a site member that tipped you in the right direction? If you have a link to the thread, I'd like to check it out.
