Balkan-beats fashion in Europe passed its peak more than a decade ago, than now's the time when artists releases such albums not because of fashion, but since they are originally always played such kind of music. Serbian-Hungarian guitarist Csaba Toth Bagi (known by his jazz fusion albums as well) returns with quite authentic mix of Balkan tunes and rhythms (Hungarian-Serbian-Macedonian) and jazz fusion. Some leading Western Balkans artists participate. One among best Balkan folklore related album for some last years Edited by snobb - 01 Sep 2017 at 1:59am |

Upstate New Yorkers Big Mean Sound Machine play very convincing classic African pop dance music. Analog Moog, a big horn section and just the right amount of echo/reverb combine for a bigger than life presence.

I'm not sure why this guitar and woodwinds duo gets labeled as avant-garde. Their music is melodic, relaxed and meditative, somewhat similar to 80's ECM, but without the reverb

Late 80s recording featuring Sven-Ake Johansson and Alexander Von Schlippenbach in a recital of avant-garde spoken word art song. An older generation of jazz musicians, raised in a time when concert hall musicians tended to have long hair, would have referred to this as 'long haired' music. Even the performers names are 'long haired'.

Although already known for mixing jazz with her folkloric music of Argentina, on her new album, Sofia Rei frames her art songs with psychedelic electronic ambience, and a bit of post punk too. Sofia multi-tracks her voice for choir like arrangements.
