Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Benito di Paula was kind of a king of samba-pop with a bit of kitsch spices. He later disappeared only to make a recent comeback encouraged by his fans.

I did not know Benito di Paula. However, I think that he has a very good voice. And such a samba pop is comfortable for me.Thumbs Up

Dorival Caymmi (1914-2008) deserves an entire book only to describe his huge contributions for the Brasilian musical scenario.

The first US hit by Carmen Miranda, back in 1939, was composed by Caymmi.

Caymmi and two of his great songs:

Tom Jobim visited Dorival Caymmi in 1964:

And later in 1992:

Orson Wells also worked with Caymmi and intended to use Caymmi's magnum opus, "The Fishermen's Suite".

Thank you. I enjoyed a video. The contest of Jobim in particular was good. I like sounds to have of "Saudade". I think that these are really indispensable for Brazilian music. And I like the sound of the words, too.

Thank you, Guigo. Maria Bethania seems to be able to sing various music. Not only samba and bossa nova but also? Anyway, the live broadcasting is of high quality.

Thank you. I enjoyed a video of Marisa Monte. The music is modern, but thinks that there is the feeling that a part of the Brazilian music of peace is inherited enough.Smile

Because I put the video of the splendid singer that Guigo was modern, I took advantage of it this time. The music that is not a samba.

Toshiko Akiyoshi (mother)

Anyway, one of my favourite samba-ish stuffs is Aerosong, composed / played by Paul Mauriat.

It's not my wish to shift this thread into an obituary topic but unfortunately some old gentlemen and ladies die and the register cannot be forgotten.

Jorge Goulart (1926-2012), died this week.

He was one of Tom Jobim's favorite singers back in the days.

Goulart's was the original recording of this antological song:

Nora Ney (1922-2003), wife of recently deceased Jorge Goulart, was famous for singing extremely sad songs like shown below:

1952

1957

However, Nora Ney was the first singer to record a rock song in Brazil (1955).

Re:Guigo

Thank you for sharing a video. And, RIP. Jorge Goulart.
After all I feel the music of such 50s elegantly. Of course the music that Japan looked like it in the 50s would be popular. The music that was affected from the foreign countries.

Re:Oneiromante

Thank you for sharing a video. I thought that Paulo Bellinati had a very good technique about a performance. After all bossa nova where all the songs perform both the melody and the rhythm at the same time is innovative music.
