Jazz pianist, and legend Dave Brubeck passed away this morning. He was one day shy of 92.

'Take Five' is one of the reasons I started to listen to jazz

I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...

He was certainly jazz giants. "Jazz Impressions of Japan "will be inherited for a Japanese listener.

Thank you, Ash. I like the album very much, too. The album which was produced in members same as "Time Out". I just checked his album while doing the work of the site.

We have lost one of the giants of jazz, my friends. He did more to bring this genre out of the shadows and into the mainstream consciousness than anyone else without compromising his standards one iota. If you have yet to discover his music then I suggest that you do so immediately. It's a brand of jazz that has no expiration date.
May you rest in peace, Mr. Brubeck, and thanks for sharing your inspiring artistry with me.... |

Though lucky enough to live to the old age of 92 (minus 1 day), still a great loss. My brother just happened to drop in on his Wikipedia page the day before he died. I don't own much of his stuff, but my brother does. His music is very much accessible, and serves as a great starting point for people new to the genre. His compositions are often up-beat and light hearted, which easily bring a smile to my face and get the feet tapping.
His work will definitely work its way back into my vinyl rotation to remember him by.

I've yet to really get to know the rest of his work but damned if Take Five isn't ingrained in my brain. Hat's off to you Dave.

I've been listening to more of his stuff off of grooveshark.com. I would recommend his "Impressions of ____" albums. They have pretty creative sounds to them.

I agree, the 'impressions' albums are among my fav from him. Especially (obviously) the Japan one. There's some wonderful stuff on the Eurasia one too |
