Hi
I have an exercise that I need to practise it involves playing a pattern of triplets over 16th notes. I am having a great deal of difficulty with coordination. Does anyone have any tips that might me with this. |

What kind of triplets? Are you talking about eighth note triplets over 4 sixteenths? In other words, 3 over 4?
I moved this to The Musicians Exchange. Edited by js - 31 Mar 2020 at 10:09pm |

Take your 16ths and subdivide them into triplets and you get this:
NooNooNooNoo (N means note and o is a beat of time) Now write the eighth note triplet like this: NoooNoooNooo Notice how both beats have been subdivided into 12 equal parts that can be stacked on top of each other. When you stack them you get this, I spaced the letters to make it easier to read. Eighth triplets - N o o o N o o o N o o o Sixteenths - N o o N o o N o o N o o Play this very slowly with a different sound in each hand and eventually you will get a feel for it. It will be difficult at first. If it does not sound like African music, you aren't playing it right.

You're welcome, I'm working on a Chopin prelude in E minor that has eighth note triplets against regular eighths.
