As rain lashes the window, and the nights have drawn in, it's the perfect season to dust off the turntable and spend some quality time with your vinyl collection, and filling in all those gaps you never knew you had. The ideal time to run a vinyl reissues round-up then! First, we spend some time with the Miles Davis Quintet in Paris on a pair of releases from the mid-sixties, when the group was truly finding its mojo. This is followed by the first vinyl release of Diana Krall’s major-label debut, Only Trust Your Heart. McCoy Tyner and Joe Henderson’s bracing Live at Slugs’ Saloon from 1966 makes its first-ever appearance, courtesy of Jack DeJohnette’s archive. From Blue Note, we have Bobby Hutcherson’s fantastic Dialogue, featuring some superb Sam Rivers abstractions, and also Clifford Jordan’s Cliff Jordan and Duke Pearson’s Wahoo! We close with a Soundway Records compilation exploring Nigeria’s fusion of highlife, juju, and modern technology in the 1980s. This 2LP set showcases Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet live in Paris, October 1, 1964, with Wayne Shorter newly onboard. Spanning two concerts, the 90+ minutes of unreleased music highlight the quintet's fiery chemistry. The performances reflect the deep bond between Miles and the French audience, contrasting their reception at home. Captured by famed engineer Orville O’Brien, the tape, stored in DeJohnette’s archives for nearly 60 years, is now released, produced by Zev Feldman and the DeJohnettes. This Tone Poet Vinyl Edition, mastered by Kevin Gray from analog tapes, features 180g vinyl, deluxe gatefold packaging, and Joe Harley’s expert production. Available Format: Vinyl Record Released in 1964, Duke Pearson’s Wahoo! is a standout blend of his compositional and leadership prowess. Featuring Donald Byrd, Joe Henderson, and James Spaulding, the album delivers memorable tracks like “Amanda” and “ESP.” This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition offers all-analog sound, mastered by Kevin Gray, on 180g vinyl.
