New Release Round-Up - 7th February 2025by Maddy Allison Certainly a dash of all jazz genres this week as we kick off February with a new set of releases! For the fans of the jazz-funk sound of the 70s and 80s, Tabloid's Hot Gossip is sure to please and for those who enjoy a more adventerous album, the avant-garde Honey From A Winter Stone is the ideal listen. Some genre crossovers: in Solidarity, the classical and jazz styles combine in compositions written for chamber ensemble and jazz quintet, and an ambient blend of pop and jazz are the pillars of BelleJazzClub by Adrien Soleiman. Those looking for a laid-back sound will enjoy guitarist Martin Budde's new trio album Back Burner, and finally a combination of Afro-Caribbean and jazz styles feature in Clélya Abraham's celestial Atacama - a journey through the desert and amongst the stars. Combining the genres of classical and jazz, the trombonist Zach Rich creates an album of original music to be played by both jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. With a diverse mix of influences (John Clayton to Billy Childs), Rich creates a warm and lyrical jazz sound with his creative ensemble in Solidarity. Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC/ALAC/WAV, Hi-Res FLAC/ALAC/WAV Guitarist Martin Budde leads his trio in his brand new album, Back Burner. Creating a soft and melodic sound, Budde delivers a selection of mainly original compositions alongside his longtime collaborators on drums and bass. The only cover (Joni Mitchell’s “My Old Man”) harkens back to his memories of playing Americana music with his father in the remoter areas of Alaska. Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC/ALAC/WAV Fuelled by the funk and soul jazz of the 70s and 80s, Hot Gossip is the second album from Danish group Tabloid. Powered by an electric and retro sound, the quintet’s new release is a collection of catchy grooves, created and written by all five members of the band. With an effort to keep the album less polished to give a ‘live’ feel, Tabloid’s new release is designed for the dancefloor. Available Formats: MP3, FLAC/ALAC/WAV, Hi-Res FLAC/ALAC/WAV Inspired by the Atacama desert, singer and pianist Clélya Abraham releases her album of the same name; a fantastic fusion of jazz and Afro-Caribbean music, influenced by her roots. Abraham’s ethereal vocals meet her melodic, inventive piano motifs and the band’s pulsing rhythms in thirteen original compositions. With her ensemble, Clélya Abraham journeys to the stars and beyond in Atacama. Available Formats: MP3, FLAC/ALAC/WAV, Hi-Res FLAC/ALAC/WAV With an imaginative vision at the forefront, trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire delivers with Nonesuch Records his album Honey From A Winter Stone. There's a wide scope of genres: from chamber music, hip-hop, all the way to improvised vocals and spoken word (which performer Kokayi utilises to create lyrics in the moment) Akinmusire embraces his own personal experiences to create an avant-garde album that transcends boundaries. Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC/ALAC/WAV, Hi-Res FLAC/ALAC/WAV French musician Adrien Soleiman demonstrates his talents in a variety of ways as he heads up his very own jazz project in BelleJazzClub, a blend of pop, jazz and spontaneity. Ambient and hypnotic, Soleiman demonstrates his skills as a saxophonist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer whilst surrounded by his trusted ensemble members and collaborators.
