Hello Jazz Music Lounge posters--I wanted to let you know about a show I host dedicated to jazz from the 1940s to the 1980s called Night Lights. It's currently airing on about 20 stations around the United States and in the Philippines, including WBGO in New York City and WDCB in Chicago. You can listen to all of the shows online as well at the program's website:
http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/ The programs are thematic in nature, covering everything from certain periods of an artist's career (Bill Evans after Scott LaFaro died, Louis Armstrong in the late 1940s and the 1950s, Miles Davis in the early 1980s) to nightclubs (Cafe Society, Birdland, Cafe Bohemia), or historical parallels (jazz and the space race, jazz and Jack Kerouac, jazz and the Cold War). Here are some recently-aired shows: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/great-columbia-jazz-purge-coleman-evans-jarrett-mingus/ http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/tempus-fugueit-life-music-bud-powell-part-1/ http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/rookie-year-curtis-fuller-57/ http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/paris-noir-african-american-musicians-in-france/ http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/proving-melba-liston-arranger-lady-trombone/ Much appreciation for any time that you might take to check out these or any other programs on the Night Lights site. |
