How Many Jazz Albums Do You Have

I think the story of a record store, or a music store that carries CD's is almost over ... and I hope that folks in the music business start to take over their own work, instead of hoping someone else does it for you ... they don't, and you will only receive a check for $10 dollars at the end of the year, with no way possible to find out how many listens it really had at all ... 

But, these days, the only place I buy anything is online ... there is no other option, not to mention that the local outlets were ALWAYS lousy at selection and specially requests. The variety is insane compared to the really bad/poor selections at the store, up to and including the big ones I visited, Rasputin in Berkeley (had jazz classical on different store down the street I think), The Tower in Hollywood (very poor after the top 100 of anything), and The Warehouse in Westwood (several floors).

The nice one, just for an example and kicks, is Powell's bookstore in Portland ... a whole city block with several floors and you won't be able to peruse everything you want to because the amount in one selection or another is so huge that you will end up checking a lot of them to see if one kicks you in! But it is a place, that you better decide to spend several hours and have some coffee in their cafe, and then go back to going crazy looking everywhere! It's literally an impossibility, and of course ... the worst part is that doing it ONLINE is not helping you find anything ... because your mind flying all over is more likely to want to try this area now and then that area ... until you have 15 books in your hands, and go ... I don't have enough moolah for all that and now it the curse ... having to put away some of the choices you made ... you'll never be happy with that!!!! I guarantee you!

Side Note: Just saw that special on Tower Records, and it only really showed that for all their talent in staying with with the technology, by the time things got to downloads, they decided/thought it was all being stolen and did not create a site to sell the music ... and that was very stupid ...Apple, alone made a killing of it, and Tower should have been the one, specially as many artists loved their store and story (Elton John and Bruce Springsteen prominent on the special). But if you were from a small town, yo never saw that much and what it meant to so many ... and this is likely to be the hard part of a lot of jazz for many years, and I can only hope that the Internet wakes up to "jazz" a lot more as soon as the kids start getting tired of the commercial attitudes towards all "songs" ... it's not even about the music, and the jazz folks could make a huge difference here! AND SHOULD!
