Long ago, the band section at myspace was one of the best places you could go to find new bands by using all kinds of interesting search features.
Then came the dark years and myspace became a graveyard of neglect and chaos. All of a sudden, just recently, myspace has cleaned up their act and are once again a good place to check out bands. The site no longer diverts you to bogus "radio stations" playing pop hits, but instead will now allow an artist's playlist to play all the way through, just as in the past. There are occasional commercials, but not too many, at least for now.

Interesting.
I fear though that the ship has sailed on myspace. |

As a social site they are history, but as an inexpensive way for a band to present their music, they are much better again.
Probably most people don't realize how really bad the site had become over the last couple years, as they had probably lost interest and moved on long before.

It's true.
Bandcamp (and soundcloud for that matter) are way better IMO for spreading the music word, especially with all the problems myspace has had over the past few years. Nevertheless, I'm glad they fixed it at least for the time being. |

These days I use bandcamp and soundcloud all the time, both are great. Do bands have to pay for using those?
Back when myspace first started to falter, reverbnation came out, but the big difference was that myspace was free for bands, and reverbnation wasn't.

That's a good question.
I thought they were free (at least Soundcloud...I've never really did anything on bandcamp except go straight to an artists page), but if they aren't myspace is certainly a step ahead there. |
