Shabaka Announces New EP ‘Possession’

   London musician Shabaka has confirmed plans for new EP ‘Possession’.

The composer works in the jazz field, making his name as a potent saxophonist. Eager to keep developing as a musician, Shabaka confirmed a huge shift in his practise – he would shelve the sax, in favour of other woodwind instruments.
A flute-inclined studio album followed, taking Shabaka’s work into a completely different lane. The creativity continues on a new EP, with ‘Possession’ set to be released digitally on December 6th via Impulse! Records.
The guest cast gives an indication of where Shabaka’s head is at – left-field rap auteurs billy woods and Elucid appear, alongside Nduduzo Makhathini, Brandee Younger, Carlos Niño, Jason Moran and more.

My original plan for my album ‘Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace’ was to present the acoustic music as recorded in the Van Gelder and London studios, but also dissect and sample the material to produce an accompanying beats segment to the album. ‘Timepieces’ is one of the results of this intention.
Catch Shabaka at three UK live shows this winter, including London’s Royal Festival Hall on November 30th.
