Hi,

Here is my list of reviews so far, here on JMA ... more to come as I can get to them,

Terje Rypdal & David Darling - EOS
Terje Rypdal - Odyssey
Egberto Gismonti - Danca das Cabecas
Egberto Gismonti - Sol do Meio Dia
Egberto Gismonti - No Caipira
Jan Garbarek - Places
Jan Garbarek - Eventyr
Jan Garbarek - All Those Born With Wings
Jan Garbarek - Ragas and Sagas

In the near future:
Egberto Gismonti - Sanfona
Return to Forever - The Mothership Returns
Dissidenten - The jungle Book
Dissidenten - Out of this World
Eberhard Weber

I won't be doing Keith Jarrett much as there are enough reviews there ... but there are more things in my collection that I will get to after I move and get things out of the box ... some more experimental stuff ... was hoping to get Between but stuff is not readily available, the same with Embryo ... where some albums are STILL not available for download ... horrible state of affairs that some folks don't give a damn about the music whatsoever ... and PM Hamel's site is not nice about his stuff with the group ... half of it is listed as his stuff.

Hi,

Was trying to go a few more reviews for folks listed on the JMA site, but ran into an interesting moment, that I have not been able to resolve a lot.

In general, in a lot of film reviews I tend to look at a lot of music, and I have reviewed it as well as the film. It was really hard to ignore Maurice Jarre, Vangelis, Ryuichi Sakamoto and several others ... and I always felt that their music for the films, also helped tell the story, and make the films really special ... and then I came across an example that has me ... uncertain how to review it.

Bo Hansson in his first album put together music that was inspired by The Lord Of The Rings, and he was not allowed by the family to use it directly, so the album ended up being released as "music inspired by TLOTR".

And a funny thing happened on the way to the review ... I could not, visualize much of the music in this album at all ... even with the title (translations on the American release) ... it was like the visual was not there.

I'm not sure, yet, as to why that was, of if I can write a proper review of that album ... I thought that the music has "aged" a bit, and is not as lively as Bo Hansson was in his next album, for example, and I wonder how much of Bo's visualization from reading the book, was what he wrote the music for ... something that would be very personal, and difficult to expect anyone else to be able to "see" it like he did.

I'm working on that, and hopefully I can write this review, but several listens have not helped identify much to go by ... normally, I get a few words that seem to describe things to my imagination, but I can honestly say that this has not happened for me as yet ... and I will give it a couple more listens, before moving on to the next album.

Not sure why some things come alive for me, and some don't. Maybe, the music seemingly aged and not sound as good as it might have been otherwise, or perhaps it lacked a bit more "mood" to help us understand it and follow it, instead of so many small pieces, that feel like they do not exactly come together or fit well together to help define a story ... but maybe this is the one album that is not fit for me to review.

I'll try, though!

Hi,

Three reviews of the band GONG.

Magick Brother
Continental Circus
Flying Teapot

...

Upcoming will be Angel's Egg and then You.

After that I might try Chicago for a few albums from the start. A lot of these are "jazz" in spirit, but I'm not sure they are considered that, although it is possible that they might fit in the earlier style of fusion works in the late 1960's.

Goodness me ... 22 reviews already and more to come. I'm enjoying doing these and re-listening to some of these things. They all still feel real special for me, even after all these years.

Hi,

Keep wanting to ask to have the Nick Mason album (Fictional Sports) added, since it is, apparently a Carla Bley album and features almost all of her band and Robert Wyatt. I'll wake up sometime!
