Gogo Penguin will release new album ‘Necessary Fictions’ on June 20th.
The Manchester experimental group blend the freedom of jazz with club-parallel electronics, creating immersive worlds in the process. New album ‘Necessary Fictions’ finds Gogo Penguin evolving once more, embracing new influences in the process.
Out on June 20th, new album ‘Necessary Fictions’ is framed by images of Manchester’s iconic Toast Rack building – a true landmark, it features in the cover art.
In an introductory message, the Manchester band say…
““Necessary Fictions” is about shedding the mask and showing who we truly are — as people, as musicians, as a band.”
New single ‘Fallowfield Loops’ is out now, spacious return that contains some of the group’s immediately identifiable sense of audio painting.
Gogo Penguin comment…
“There’s a quiet sadness in it, but also rhythm and momentum — a sense of moving forward. The title is a nod to a hidden greenway near where we live in South Manchester — an old railway line turned peaceful urban escape.”
The accompanying video — directed by pianist Chris Illingworth and bassist Nick Blacka — is online out, and features the Toast Rack building prominently.
