Sun Ra is best known for his avant-garde jazz and classic big band recordings, but early in his career he dabbled in crazy outsider RnB and lounge exotica.
The lengthy samples provided here allow you to hear almost the entire album of these archival recordings.

One of the classic Japanese albums from 70s has been reissued by JVC. Bass veteran Isao Suzuki leads an electro-acoustic sextet with Japanese and American musicians (incl. bassist Sam Jones, drummer Billy Higgins and Cedar Walton on keyboards among others). Two electric guitarists on board(incl. Japanese fusion legend Kazumi Watanabe) and electric keyboards instead of piano are significant attributes of fusion, but album's music is surprisingly deeply rooted in bop. Suzuki plays his signature physical double bass (and occasionally cello). Don't be fooled by the cover art - there is no funk at all!

Pau Brasil and Ensemble SP perform jazz versions of the music of Villas-Lobos. Although this album was released previously in Brasil, it is just now getting a full international release.

Mid 70s live recording by Eero Koivistoinen finds him playing aggressive post bop and fusion with Phillip Catherine on distorted jazz-rock guitar.

Vinny Golia's wind quartet in 1979 mixes up 3rd stream and avant-garde influences, very creative creations.

Jackie Shane never made it to the big time, not because of a lack of talent, but probably because she was fearlessly transgender in a time when this was practically dangerous. Most of her hits were on small local labels, but recently many of those hits have been collected on this compilation.

Sun Ra and his Arkestra recorded in the mid-60s, the music is quite good and falls into familiar Sun Ra territory such as Duke Ellington on acid, the outer edge of Dolphy with Mingus and avant-garde exotica. The recordings are okay but not great, the horns are loud and clear, but the piano, bass and percussion are more in the background.
