The Newport Festivals Foundation recently released their second wave of artists performing at the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival. The renowned event will take place at Fort Adams State Park and the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino From August 3 to 5. Jay Sweet, executive producer of Newport Festivals Foundation, says, “This Second Wave of artists is so indicative of the exciting direction we’re building towards with this year’s Newport Jazz lineup.” With the addition of artists like BADBADNOTGOOD, Grace Kelly, and Tony Allen, the 2018 Newport Folk Festival will be showcasing the top jazz talent from around the world.
The second wave features the additions of BADBADNOTGOOD, The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, and Tony Allen to the Friday, August 3 lineup. They join the likes of Living Colour, Sangam with Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland, Rudresh Mahanthappa Indo-Pak Coalition, Michel Camilo and the Matthew Shipp Trio.
The Saturday, August 4 lineup sees the addition of performers like Pat Metheny (with Antonio Sanchez, Linda May Han Oh & Gwilym Simcock), Lean On Me: José James Celebrates Bill Withers, Trio 3 (Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman and Andrew Cyrille), Grace Kelly, and Anat Cohen & Marcello Gonçalves. They will join the Charles Lloyd New Quartet (with Jason Moran, Reuben Rodgers and Eric Harland), Andrea Day and Mary Halvorson’s Code Girl on the second day of the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival.
On the final day of the festival, artists like Ambrose Akinmusire’s Origami Harvest, Black Art Jazz Collective, Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, and Nate Smith + KINFOLK have been added to the already impressive lineup. They join the previously released list of Sunday, August 5 performers including Charles Lloyd & Friends (featuring Lucinda Williams with Jason Moran, Marvin Sewell, Stuart Mathis, Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland), the all-female collective Artemis (featuring Cécile McLorin Salvant, Renee Rosnes, Anat Cohen, Melissa Aldana, Ingrid Jensen, Noriko Ueda and Allison Miller), James Carter Organ Trio and Jazzmeia Horn.
