You should be able to vote now, thanks for reporting this bug.

For PA, send me a PM on JMA with the details of the issue.

i love it! we've been talking about Jazz Music Archives since at least 2008 over at PA. Finally there is one! Sure, it's in it's infant stage, but it's going to be such an awesome site.

Love this place already.

Maybe it's just me, but the PA color choices were easier to read (dark text on white background) - but I'll adjust.  Tongue

Thanks for testing this Moris. From what I have seen over the past few months, jazz is a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
If I was to give an answer, jazz is Charlie Parker, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins and Dizzy Gillespie.

Post-1939 jazz is modern garbage of the worst kind. All the original jazz was made at a time of great creativity before WWII, and anything made after '39 is just copied from past greats and played by unoriginal hacks

This site is giving me deja vu from last year when Metal Music Archives launched.  Plenty of holes, which I expected, and I was one of many people yelling and screaming about band omissions and genre classification errors.

I really, really love jazz music just like I do metal and prog, but I feel my exposure to jazz isn't as strong as it is to rock and metal.  This is mainly due to the fact the jazz section in music stores seems to be shrinking and shrinking, plus jazz doesn't get anywhere close to the exposure of rock-based music.  That's how it is in Canada, and I'm sure others have similar problems in other countries.

Anyways, getting off track...

I don't have a go-to source for my knowledge of jazz aside from wikipedia, so I look forward to Jazz Music Archives being the place for me to go to kick back and learn and explore this great form of music.

Of course, this young site is going to take some time to grow.  Working on Metal Music Archives makes me really appreciate the efforts it takes behind the scenes of a website.  I have faith that this site will become a superb resource, and I can't stress enough how excited I am about it. Smile

Yep.  They really thought it through.  Clap

I was wondering how many there could possibly be.

everything is pretty much covered, with small changes I see happening in the future

the thing about jazz, is also the size and scope of the genre. Jazz has metal beat by 60-70 years, so there is much more ground to cover.

Yes the jazz sections in stores by me are dwindling if not extinct. Thank goodness for one place by me that has a large jazz section (even its own funk section)

it's not jazz metal, though.  I most often see that term used in reference to the new wave of aggressive, distorted, avant-jazz (ex: Jean Louis)

Though, I do think the forums should be a different color than black. Maybe a light blue/blue scheme would be nice.

That's part of it. I only like some jazz bands, but it also lacks alot of interesting threads and has a small community

We are a small site, still in our infancy and competing with about 10 to 15 already established jazz sites. Shocked

The Jazz community is actually quite large. As js said, there are other more established sites on the internet, and I would say jazz fans are a little more "quiet" on the internet, and there are less trolls than on metal, rock, prog, and pop forums, though it could go either way with funk/jazz-funk fans.

smartpatrol, I think there are a lot of interesting threads here, it's just activity is low compared to, say, PA, so whoever is here regularly has already commented on whatever subjects the threads are about. This is why I started the "Album Discussions" thread.

Well, I think one part of the lack of interesting threads is because I'm still making my way into jazz, so there's far less threads being made about stuff I'm interested in compared to PA

I don't know those two.  But you are entering a pretty diverse genre. There isn't much metal here, but then again there is Hellborg.

I'm still really new to the site, but I'm loving it. It's helping me get into jazz much like PA helped get me into (more obscure) prog. I've actually been spending more time here rather than PA in the last couple of days.
