I've tried several apps like Shazam with no luck.  It's a common tune.

(Am)  EBCA
(E7) EBCD
(Am7) EBCA BCA 
(Am6) BCE
(Dm) AEFD
(A7) AEFG
etc.

Yes, I recognize the melody. Its similar to "Summer Wind", but I don't think thats it.

No, it's not summer wind - it's in minor, with a haunting melody.  I recorded myself playing what I can remember, but it's only partial, and I want to learn the whole thing.  I can't find a way of attaching an audio file here to post it.    But thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I didn't think it was Summer Wind, although the opening is similar.
I do recognize the tune, I can even hear a version I have heard many times before played by trumpet in my head, but I cannot place the title or where I heard the tune, but it is well known.
