I'll put that here for now, and didn't make a specific separation between "rock" & "jazz", as a lot are "both" I left a space after spot 12, because there is a significant drop after them

Hi, Going through your list ... what a massive treat this was!!! Fractal Sextet Very special for me ... with Stephan Phelen whose other ambient stuff is also neat. I also like the fact that it has Colin Edwin on the Bass Guitar and it really shows how PT misses his touch ... PT has become rock by numbers (so to speak) and not a real imaginative band giving you a nice touch and trip. Bondage Fruit Interesting, although I still don't want to think of this band as this or that ... first saw them in SF (1999) at that ill fated festival, and they did not impress much and have some pictures of that show (and other bands, except PT ... SW specifically stated no pics!!!) ,,, I have to listen to some of the stuff at that time to try and get a better feel, but so far, as I listen to this album, it stands up really fine and enjoyable. Present Despite its main member passing away, the album was finished by the rest of the musicians and it is fine, although my ears think it is a bit uneven ... but it might be one of those rare listens that you have to get acquainted with ... I'm gonna see and check other stuff by them. Strange that the blurb on the link mentions polyrhythms and repetition ... and maybe this one piece on the toob is not a good example. Deerand Impressive and nice. And while there are a couple of super guests, I'm not sure they are really needed though I find the use of Markus Reuter rather interesting, and Tony Levin's contributions are small and nice. The band's name is after its definition which apparently is about any instrument's tone extending to its full duration ... and while that is not so here, maybe one whole piece fits the term. It's very nice stuff and quite a treat ... and it's nice to see/hear something that is not "conventional" at all, and has touches that makes you want to hear more. Møster I like this ... it kinda expands your ability and knowledge of music, in order to create a different visual to your listen. It's different for me to have to look for ... what is it? What am I seeing through the music? I thought it got a bit more conventional as it went on, with these really long pieces (no problem there for me!!!) but it ends up feeling like three or four pieces strung together, and I'm not sure what connects them to create their complete piece. Compassioner Wow ... a listing with no drummer! I'm in!!! Very nice stuff and well put together, and it is more about the musical feel than it is about the touch of anything. It felt like a piece of classical music yo are hearing for the first time, and you like it and wonder where it is going ... even though sometimes the "changes" in the pieces are a bit different, and not necessarily connected ... which is the only thing that is strange here ... nice parts that are not extended and are replaced by something ... different ... maybe not as nice, but it always comes back to give yo more good parts! Elephant 9 with Terje Rypdal I think of this as "Odyssey 2" for some reason, and ... you really want to close your eyes and live through these things ... just neat, and somehow Terje manages to find some neat combinations to work with and ... I have yet to hear one that is not special in its own way. It is the kind of stuff that helped ECM so much 55 years ago, and it still resonates and comes across as fresh and new and special ... and it's almost impossible to find words for it ... you just want to close it all up and live through its moments ... quite special. (I'll add more as I listen to it ... a lot of new stuff for me! Love it!)

Orchestre Tout Puissant/Marcel Duchamp Ventre Unique 2024 An interesting listen, though for my ear, I think it is too married to modern/weird music and composition a lot more than it might be in the area of free form and experimental, and its use of a lot of things from many different styles makes for an interesting, if odd, mix. Not bad in anyway, but it is different and you kinda have to get your noodles tuned in to ... something else ... but don't try to define it! ====================================== Tatu & Tutkimusmatkailijat Vasta Alkusoittoa 2024 Nice stuff by this Finnish, though my mind went to a lot of places while listening. The first piece, had me thinking Tangerine Dream for a while, with the guitar just flying all over it ... which was really nice and special in my book. The second piece started simpler and easier, but soon became just an endless guitar solo ... interesting and enjoyable, although I am no longer enthused by John McLaughlin like endless rips for my ear ... and would like a bit more in music than just that, hopefully expanding on the "mood" rather than the soloing. But that's me as a listener, so please do not think this is a critique of the album. It has some really nice things along the way, though I think it takes advantage of what "progressive" and "jazz" is by switching gears and creating another part in the same piece. The third piece is the one I like the most, for its simplicity, and it is still handled mostly by the guitar and the piece gathers intensity slowly and surely. ====================================== Tom Penaguin S/T 2024 Instrumental materials that will remind you of a lot of the Canterbury touches. Tom is from Brittany (France) and the interesting thing is his touch, in this particular album (I have not head the others), which will bring many minds to somewhere else, but the instrumental pieces are nice, smooth and not over done, or just another loud solo on the guitar ... here it is not ... "loud" ... but more about the continuity of the music itself, as evidenced by the long piece "Jousefly Leg". In general, this is a neat album ... and musically very satisfying and you can put it on and do your work, and before long you will find yourself grooving with many of its parts. ======================================= Zopp Danfest (Live) 2023 recording released 2024 Very nice stuff, and it takes its time developing various parts, which allows you to fall into the music easier than if it were in a hurry to get going. This would fit more as rock music than jazz ... and I might say that just because it is led by the guitar ... a nice rock sound, not showing off kind of thing, but staying with its material and trip rather than trying to impress you with their ... this and that. I had the feeling that this was about the flow of the music and nothing else, and it just seems to flow along nicely. I was specially attuned to the longer pieces in this album, even though on occasion I thought that I was listening to early CARAVAN, or Canterbury, but I think that was just a mind displacement on my part by the sound of a keyboard. Nice listen, though, and I liked the flow. ======================================== Ghost Rhythms Live at L'Ermitage 2024 (show recorded in 2023) Nice live album that allows for folks to fly ... it is one continuous jam for the opening and it is not boring, and the various instruments ... really make this special. It is a wide mix of instruments and not something that is often found in music circles ... one might even suggest that this has some classical leanings, though that mode (generally) does not like improvised stuff. And here, as this is a live album, I think it is clear that some parts are just flying some improvised stuff ... This has a lovely use of flute, accordion, congas, derbouka, cello, keyboards, saxophone, guitar and it has a nice friendly/homely feel to it that makes this whole thing outstanding. And things keep getting better in this album. Goodness you and I would pay to see this ... excellent stuff. (Still listening to Sean's outstanding list)
