The Love Supreme Jazz Festival’s 10th anniversary edition is fast shaping up to be its strongest line-up to date with global jazz, funk and soul stars converging on the idyllic Glynde Place, East Sussex site from 30 June to 2 July. The army of international musicians set to perform include popular Main Stage and Big Top headliners such as Thundercat, Marcus Miller, Gabriels, Candi Staton and Shalamar with newly announced acts including last year’s Mercury Music Prize winning rapper Little Simz and a closing night performance from the maverick soul-funk force that is Grace Jones (2 July).
Further additions now include jazz-meets-drum’n’bass Brit drummer Yussef Dayes; horn-powered US funk icons Tower of Power; renowned British saxophonist Courtney Pine CBE; Grammy nominated US vocalist Jazzmeia Horn; high-intensity Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan; French-Caribbean singer/bassist Adi Oasis and Israeli piano star Shai Maestro. Also announced are Leeds-based spiritual jazz saxophonist Jasmine Myra; MOBO Award-winning saxophonist Binker Golding; hypnotic Danish drums-keys duo Svanneborg Kardyb; acclaimed guitar-sax bandleaders Alex Hitchcock and Ant Law and vocalist Natalie Williams, who presents her Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack project. The programme also features a selection of breakthrough singers including Obongjayar, Mica Millar, August Charles and Cherise, while the father of Ethiopian jazz Mulatu Astatke and fast rising Blue Note-signed alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins are also set to appear. Other names so far announced include Pip Millett, Greentea Peng, Yaya Bey, The Cavemen, Zoe Rahman Octet, August Charles and Toucan.
The usual camping/glamping options are available as well as on-site wellness and yoga area, secret swimming, organized hill walks across the South Downs, a host of activities aimed at children. The Jazz Lounge, which will present a range of artist interviews, talks, panel discussions, breakfast news reviews and film screenings, while the New Generation Jazz bandstand will host its own programme of exciting new jazz names. The festival will also see the return of an expanded Bands & Voices area, which presents cabaret, spoken word and swing dance lessons, and nestled away in the woods the Blue In Green area presents live music and DJs late into the night.
