This cover album of Frank Zappa songs, King Kong by Jean-Luc Ponty always impressed me.

Not really aware of any pop-songs or famous covers readily. I know of too many musicians that borrow so much to give any credit to a single source of inspiration. Enough to warrant a cover. Especially of this caliber. There's something more than influence being expressed in the album, which is why I gravitate to its detailed expression of care.
