Legendary singer-songwriter  https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/tags/joni-mitchell/" rel="nofollow - Joni Mitchell  has revealed details of a new box set complete with rare archives from the 1970s, set to be released later this year.

Arriving on October 4th, Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 4: The Asylum Years (1976-1980) will comprise rare material which provide insights into the creative processes behind creating three quintessential Mitchell albums: HejiraDon Juan’s Reckless Daughter and her collaboration with Charles Mingus, Mingus.

The set will also include Mitchell’s time on the road with Bob Dylan during the  https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/beat-generation-influenced-bob-dylans-rolling-thunder-revue/" rel="nofollow - Rolling Thunder Revue  tour in 1975 and 1976, alongside the Bread and Roses Festival and the Anti-Nuclear Rally.

Mitchell provided a glimpse into the new archives with a clip of her performing ‘Coyote’ for the Rolling Thunder Revue tour in Montreal in 1975.

To introduce the track to the crowd, the compared the experience to “the circus” and explained that the song is still a work in progress of sorts.

She said: “It’s kinda like running away from home to join the circus.” Adding, “Anyway I’ve got this tune that has been growing, started off with two verses and couple of nights later I added another one. Last night I got a fourth one. I think it’s finished, but I don’t know, maybe there’s a couple of more chapters to go. But it’s called ‘Coyote,’ and it goes like this.”

The volume will be released on CD and LP and will contain liner notes, photos, and a conversation between Mitchell and Cameron Crowe. Mitchell began the series in 2020 with Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967), which presented her early, more folk-leaning material.

At the time, Mitchell said, “The early stuff, I shouldn’t be such a snob against it.” The first volume in Mitchell’s archive series also  https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/joni-mitchell-announces-archives-vol-3-the-asylum-years-1972-1975/" rel="nofollow - won a Grammy in 2022 for Best Historical Album .

Mitchell first signed to Asylum Records in 1972 after working with Reprise Records on some of her best-known albums. She stayed with the label until 1979 when she concluded her contract with the release of Mingus.

Later this year, Mitchell is set to perform at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for two special shows in October. She notably returned to the stage in 2022, and has since made sporadic appearances, including a triumphant performance at the Grammys in February.
