Sad news indeed. Editor-in-chief Annie Annie van der Velde has just announced that Jazzism, the leading jazz magazine in the Netherlands, is to close. She has written, in a widely distributed email:

(quote begins) “It was with a heavy heart that we sent Jazzism 6 to the printer yesterday morning. The magazine we have made with passion and dedication since 2006 is coming to an end. The decision was not taken lightly, but the reality of rising costs and falling revenues makes it impossible to continue.

In recent years, we have published countless wonderful interviews with jazz musicians from all corners of the genre. We wrote about legends of the past, talked to the innovative artists who are now conquering stages, and the talented newcomers who embody the future of jazz. For us, every edition was a tribute to the art and soul of jazz. As we close, it is with pride in this legacy.

I want to thank you for your fine cooperation, support and enthusiasm. It is partly thanks to your efforts that your artists were featured in Jazzism with interviews. And don’t forget the beautiful photos, for which you were willing to go the extra mile. Everything to bring jazz into the limelight.

Although this is the end of Jazzism, we know that the love for this music is permanent. Hope to see you at jazz concerts and festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium.” (quote ends)
