Indeed, such groundbreaking albums took old-style jazz into a much more modern realm

Kind of Blue
Giant Step
Ah Hum
Shapes of Jazz To come
Time out
Nubians Of Plutonia
Africaine

1958 was not shabby with
Somethin' Else (Adderley)
Cool strutting (Sonny clarke)
Mysterioso (Monk)
Moanin' (Blakey)

But it simply isn't as modern

so is 1959  a hinge year???

Congratulation, I think you're the first member to http://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=222" rel="nofollow - repeat a topic . Wink

"Banner" sounds like an appropirate word. Fully significant year. Concierto de Aranjuez or Take Five are jazz repertoire must-hear, pleasant too, but not masterpieces to me.

Anyway, I still have a lot to hear.

Even if a repeat subject, does this mean we can't discuss the merits of 58 and 60????

1960:

Mingus, Charles Presents Charles Mingus
Blakey, Art / Jazz Messengers A Night in Tunisia
Coltrane, John My Favorite Things
Roach, Max We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite
Sun Ra Angels and Demons at Play
Davis, Miles Sketches of Spain
Dolphy, Eric Out There
let's not forget the Coleman, Cherry and cecil Taylor...

But this list is simply not as awesome than 1959's, isn't it???
