Bill Evans: Alone (1970). The lengthy version of "Never Let Me Go" is unforgettable.

Lately I have been enjoying the solo piano playing of Matthew Shipp. He is somewhat avant-garde, but he also pulls from older stylists such as Art Tatum and Duke Ellington.
