Which albums would you say should be in every Jazz collection?  lets go to the very basics...

This is what I would recommend:
Dave Brubeck's Live at Carnegie Hall
Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert
Chick Corea's Now he Sings Now he Sobs
Something representative by Scott Joplin
Sun Ra's Angels & Demons at Play
Miles Davis' Live Evil
Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire
Duke Ellington's New Orleans Suite

I personally submitted the favorite. And, it is felt that it is similarly indispensable.

Flight To Jordan / Duke Jordan
Art Blakey and the JM / Ugetsu
Brilliant Corners / Thelonious Monk
Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy / RTF
i.o.u. / Allan Holdsworth

I have a 3 LP collection that covers much of Fletcher Henderson's  career, it really shows the development of early jazz over the years.
Oddly enough its called "Study in Frustration", he hated the title and I can see why.
