Is this an appropriate sub genre? there are a few bands I know who would fall into this category. I understand if some of these acts would fall under some other genre already here.

Planet X
Cynic
Allan Holdsworth
Tribal Tech
Naked City

Thanks Mike, but we won't be adding another genre right now. Jazz metal bands can go to hell, I mean they can go in the JR/Rock genre.   ....eventually.              Meanwhile we still have a few thousand jazz bands to add first.

Just a thought, I dont know enough bands myself to constitute a genre. I guess JR would work

I feel like the 3 listed here would have at least one album that could be considered Jazz Metal

There's a number of artists on Prog Archives that are in Eclectic Prog category which are really balancing between jazz and metal - Mörglbl being a fine example.

The first thing I noticed is that there is an interestingly titled category, "Jazz-Related Rock". The first thought was that maybe it could be modified to say "Jazz-Related Rock/Metal".

Actually what drew my attention to that was the name of Exivious, probably the latest addition in the said category. Exivious = pure metal-fusion BTW.

Not a bad idea, but we won't be changing it right now.
