Delfeayo Marsalis presents a live set of mid-tempo bop, swing, pop and blues all watered down for people who don't normally listen to jazz and don't like 'all that crazy be-bop stuff'. A typical set for tourists on their once in a lifetime visit to New Orleans, ie 'tourist jazz'.
It does help that Delfeayo is a great trombone player and knows his music well. To his credit, this could be seen as an attempt to get non-jazz fans to give the music a chance.

Like many other originators of the 'free jazz' movement, Roswell Rudd has moved on to other things. Lately he has been enjoying working with lively vocalist Fay Victor.

Featuring shades of Ornette, Dolphy and Peter Evans, Die Enttauschang play fractured be-bop for the new century. Sometimes it sounds like each musician is in his own tempo, and other times they all hit a groove together. This may sound like intellectual music, but they make it fun and kinetic.

David Birdman's new album sounds like a cross between contemporary concert hall music and avant-garde jazz.
