On his new album, Aruan Ortiz performs Cuban classical music embellished with his own improvisations.

Matt Lavalle performs originals that mix up post bop, hard bop and a bit of the avant-garde. Matt is a rare woodwind player who also doubles on trumpet.

Felix Stussi presents a modern mini-big band album with too many eclectic influences to list. Lots of humor and warm blooded playing, Ray Andersen is on board, who always excels at these sort of things. Vocalist Sonia Johnson adds an exotic element.

Kayla Waters plays 'smooth jazz' with a modern RnB edge. Interesting song writing gives her music more substance than the average smooth jazz artist.

Its hard to believe all of this different music fits on one album, but Alister Spence and his trio include free improvisation, both quiet and intense, moments of quiet mysticism, post rock and concert hall minimalism and so much more. Influences could include John Cage, George Crumb and Matthew Shipp among others. Very creative album on which nothing is taken for granted, definitely not your father's avant-garde jazz.

Depending on where you live, this youtube channel may not work for everyone. We will try to get a bandcamp link up when it becomes available.

Different from his jazzier quintet, Olie Brice's duos with Achim Kaufmann delve more into free improvisation and pure sound exploration.

Musicianer play an avant-garde punky down tempo lo-fi form of jazz fusion. It is an unadorned, yet creative, style all their own.

Lotte Anker's new album consists of one half of her playing solo, and the other half with a quartet. You can hear three entire songs at this website:
