^ Miguel Zenon is OK, but Number 1? Hmmmm....
I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...

This will sound strange, but as listeners of many diverse musics, The album I listened to the most this year," I checked the iTunes play count", by far  was Mastodon's The Hunter, why? hell if I know, just thought it was a fantastic, accessible progressive rock album that really struck a chord with me, from beginning to end. Jazz wise The Miles Davis Live in Europe 3 disc 1-DVD set was very nice,  Also Miles Espanol, another Bob Belden tribute, every bit as good as Miles From India.

It is not for Humans, maybe ants, martians or bees but not people. I like Don Cherry but not this one. Nothing happens, just a collection of electronic noise and everytime you think something will happen, "well it bloody doesn't". Don will start something that could be interesting but stops. Confused I will review it soon but you know that means I will have to play it again.

Found an odd but  positive synergy from an unexpected fusion of artists( and they preferred musics), when I have found very little to enjoy from either in the last decade or so: Eric Clapton & Wynton Marsalis Play The Blues.  A total revamp of Layla,  consisting  a mash-up of a number of jazz and blues styles, works surprising well. Amazon.Uk were selling the CD/DVD combo for under 9 quid (inc p&p) so a great bargain and perhaps the most memory album in year that seemed a largely adisappointment, (from viewpoint of January 2012) .I should add some of those Weather Report DVDs, especially with Jaco cooking, tweaked some of my bells.

For third stream lovers, almost as good as his best Bach's albums

Clap Trio M manage to create modern jazz without renouncing melody and harmonies

^ Probably most accessible Myra Melford's album, successful mix of melodic emotional contemporary jazz and adventurous avant-garde jazz elements, great entry album to her music I believe
