West, Adrienne, vocalist, actress, lyricist, educator; b. Brooklyn, NY, 17 November 1951. Her mother is Henrietta West (Beckham), b. 1927. Her father is Oscar West, b. 1922.Her brother is Ronald E. West, b. 1948. She moved to Hollis in Queens NY in 1960. Her parents divorced in 1980. Adrienne began classical voice and piano at age nine. During her teenage years, she felt the need to combine some of the jazz variations she had loved listening to on records with her classical background.
She performs in concerts, jazz festivals and clubs, as well as on TV and radio extensively throughout Europe and Africa (in various musical formations from duo to big band). As a member of the Alvin Queen Sextet, Adrienne travelled widely throughout Africa performing both in concerts and directing masterclass workshops in voice.
